We’re seeking a talented UX Designer to contribute to the evolution of our mobile design system as it integrates into the web design system to deliver cohesive, high-quality components and experiences that align with brand and strategic goals. This role is ideal for a systems thinker with a passion for mobile UX innovation, accessibility, and cross-platform excellence.

You’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of the global design system, while helping to create best-in-class mobile design system across native platforms (iOS and Android) and emerging technologies. This position is an exciting opportunity to drive design system adoption and shape how Vanguard creates cohesive, user-centered digital experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Design System Leadership

• Develop and maintain cross-platform components and modules while ensuring alignment with Vanguard’s global design system and brand standards.
• Bring insights and learnings to enhance the global design system.
• Enable designers to build world-class native experiences by providing reusable UI components, robust documentation, and clear guidelines.
• Partner with designers and engineers to streamline workflows and achieve high-quality, consistent designs across mobile and web platforms.

Cross-Platform Expertise

• Create design assets for web but can be tailored for native platforms (iOS & Android) while accommodating unique device behaviors and platform-specific requirements.
• Collaborate with the mobile design system team to ensure seamless integration and a cohesive experience across platforms.
• Document and evangelize the image and content strategy for mobile, ensuring a mobile-first approach that optimizes visuals and content for smaller screens and on-the-go users.
• Maintain and update the master prototype for the mobile app, ensuring it reflects the latest components and patterns while serving as a source of truth for the team.

Collaboration

• Partner with cross-divisional teams, including product owners, developers, and the accessibility office, to deliver solutions informed by user research and feedback.
• Act as a bridge between mobile and web design system teams to align shared goals and create consistency across Vanguard’s digital ecosystem.

Innovation and Best Practices

• Research and implement innovative mobile UX features, including native patterns, platform-specific interactions, and emerging technologies.
• Stay current with industry trends, technology advancements, and mobile UX best practices.
• Keep up on design system best practices at other large organizations and articles written by design system experts

Accessibility

• Champion accessibility by ensuring all components and experiences meet a11y standards and foster inclusivity.
• Collaborate with Vanguard’s accessibility office to create tools and patterns that empower users of all abilities.

Documentation and Standards

• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, design tokens, and educational resources to drive consistent application of the mobile design system.
• Conduct workshops and reviews to onboard teams to the design system and its principles.

 

Qualifications

Experience

• 5+ years of UX design experience, with at least 2 years focused on design system creation and management.
• Strong portfolio demonstrating contributions to mature design systems, including component design, documentation, and education.

Mobile Expertise

• Proven ability to design for native mobile platforms (iOS and Android), with deep knowledge of their capabilities, constraints, and guidelines.
• Hands-on experience with design tools like Figma, including the use of design tokens, theming, and UI component creation.

Collaboration and Communication

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a track record of working effectively across disciplines, including product, engineering, and research teams.
• Ability to advocate for design principles and align stakeholders around shared goals.

Problem-Solving and Creativity

• Expertise in identifying and translating user needs and user research into actionable insights
• Strong critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills, with a knack for balancing user needs with business goals.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with chat interactions or other mobile-specific features.
• Familiarity with responsive design principles and multi-device UX strategies.
